Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow in Dark Sable #23 A/W 2012 Collection

This is my first foray into Burberry eyeshadows.  As in the case with a lot of people, I will first dip my toes into a brand by trying one product, and then it's all downhill from there - I will be drawn into trying more and more of their products.  This is definitely the case with Burberry.

Dark Sable #23 is one of three new Sheer Eye Shadows in the Burberry Autumn Winter 2012 makeup collection.  As expected from Burberry, it is a beautifully executed down to earth neutral shade.

Chanel Ombres Contraste Duo in Sable-Émouvant #37

For the Summertime de Chanel collection, I skipped the Sable Beige/Rose Luminous Bronzing Powder as I felt so underwhelmed by them for a number of reasons.  Firstly, I'm not a huge fan of bronzer and with my skin type I don't really need glowy bronzer.  I was also disappointed by the same sort of stripey powder palette again.  Yes I see why they used the stripes again but it just feels a bit boring to see the same sort of thing again.  And generally I feel I have to develop a better edit of products I buy from each collection - rather than buying something because it's the star product or because it's a limited edition collectable.

Anyway now to the product I am reviewing in this post.  By skipping the Luminous Bronzing Powder,  my budget allowed me to pick up Sable-Émouvant.  My first impressions when I saw preview images was yawn - another neutral eyeshadow palette (I have nothing against neutral eyeshadows but you only really need so many of them).  But I changed my mind once I swatched it at the counter.

Chanel Ombre Essentielle in Beige Lamé #417

I am still not sure whether Beige Lamé was a good buy for me.  It's a beautiful neutral colour, quite fineky milled, with multicoloured sparkles through it.  The problem is not in the sparkles, which actually look quite beautiful.  It's the base colour - when I wear it, I don't really much of anything as it's nearly the same as my skin colour.  I was hoping for it to be a bit darker - instead I just use it on days when I just want a sheer wash for the eyes.

For this reason there's no swatch for this eyeshadow - I'll leave you with a close-up instead.

Tom Ford Eye Color Quad in Titanium Smoke #10

The new Tom Ford makeup range has 10 eyeshadow palettes, ranging from very wearable neutrals to the slightly questionable purples and blues.  Once I saw photos from the PR launches, I knew I had to have Titanium Smoke #10.

The new makeup range moved away from the packaging of the Private Blend Lipsticks, replacing the white with a metallic mahogany finish.  All the palettes and compacts use a magnetic closure rather than the traditional click closure.
