Dior Rosy Glow Blush in Pétale #001 (Spring 2012 Collection)

Dior's 2012 spring collection, Garden Party, includes the Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush (Rose à Joues Réhausser de Bonne Mine) in Pétale #001.

Rosy Glow is housed in the same silver and lucite/acrylic compact as the Diorskin Crystal Nude Natural Matte Skin Perfecter.  I prefer this casing to the normal Dior gold & navy compacts, although it does scratch and show every single fingerprint.

I bought this blush because I was intrigued by Dior's claims:

Rosy Glow features the new Fresh Color Reveal technology which intuitively adjusts to the moisture of each skin to make the cheeks blush with delight.

Upon application , Rosy Glow reveals fresh and luminous color that develops a rosy radiance to match each skin tone for an all-day ultra-natural, customized and healthy glowy effect.

My initial thoughts, before I bought it:

  • can it actually change colour?
  • if the blush adjusts colour due to the moisture level rather than your actual skintone, how does it enhance your complexion? (doesn't seem to make sense?)

First thoughts upon swatching - this pressed powder blush is VERY soft.  In fact it is even softer than Shu Uemura Glow On.  The texture makes this blush very easy to apply, but it also means it's quite fragile.  Mine had chipped slightly while it was still in the protective packaging - probably not the kind of blush to throw into your handbag.

Rosy Glow is incredibly bright and intense in the pan (like NARS Angelika), but looks completely different when applied.  To be completely honest, I was a little disappointed when I was applied it - it looked a bit too chalky and light on my skin.  Below photo shows the blush immediately after swatching.

Rosy Glow is not a visibly shimmery nor a matte blush - it has a luminous finish that is hard to describe.  However unfortunately I find the chalky ashy-ness neuralises much of this finish.

So did it change colour?  Yes indeed it did.  I wore Rosy Glow today and it eventually turned into a much rosier (is that a word?) flushed pink that looked very "just in from the cold" on me.  The effect was nice but I ended up with much pinker cheeks than I had anticipated.

Therein lies the second problem - how does one judge how much to apply?  I think the next time I wear this, I will apply with a light hand immediately after finishing my base makeup, then adjust after the rest of my makeup.  This will allow time for the blush to develop on the skin.

If you want to try Rosy Glow, please test the blush on your cheeks (not hand or wrists) then walk away from the counter.  Check how the blush looks after a while to see whether the colour/finish really suits you first.

  4. Larie - :) Waterlily is beautiful, it's going to be on my nails next.

Charlie - The whole collection is beautiful to look at, especially the eyeshadows...unfortunately (or fortunately for my credit card) the colours are a bit hard to wear for me :/

peonyinlove - Thanks! The embossing is nice and I don't want it to disappear...

  5. Ah this collection is making me hyperventilate. The nail polishes and the beautifully embossed eyeshadow quads are too much for me! I thought I had no interest in the blush until I read your post...I love a pink flush, the swatches look very nice - I have to try it now.... A.

  6. Ana Marta - I think you have to swatch everything in this collection! I skipped over the eyeshadows as I didn't want to be tempted into buying beautiful colours that I can't wear...

  7. Did you buy this in the US?

  8. Pearyfooa - No, I'm London based so I bought it here.
