To me, red lipstick = instant glamour.  

It doesn't matter what you're wearing, whether it is a little black dress or a white shirt with jeans.  If you wear red lipstick with your outfit, it will step it up to the next level.  

Red lipstick also requires confidence in the wearer.  If you don't feel comfortable in it, forget it, because it will show.

If you're thinking about trying a red lipstick for the first time, take your time and try try try.  Go to different counters and try a few different red lipsticks in different formulas.  Buy the one you feel comfortable in, otherwise you will end up with a red lipstick sitting on your dressing table that you will never wear.
