Chanel Illusion d'Ombre in Mirifique

First of all I need to apologise for the photos in this post - I took photos before I had a play with this and it ended up that a lot of the photos were not in focus.  So some of these photos will have a dent in them.

I have been waiting for so long for these.  It is a bit ridiculous how collections in US are launched more than a month before the UK.  I had seen photos and swatches of all the Illusion d'Ombre but the one that drew me in was Mirifique.

All the other colours were very similar to the colours in the Ombres Perlées de Chanel palette (except for Ebloui), but Mirifique is a much richer black compared to the dark grey in that palette.  Mirifique is a true black with fine silver glitters.  The texture of the Illusion d'Ombre is very smooth and to touch feels very similar to the Shu Uemura jelly eye shadows from a few years ago (they are slightly bouncy).  The Chanel sales assistant told me 70% of the product is silicone and 30% pigment (whether that is accurate or not I can't be sure).

Mirifique was the featured eye product in the Chanel Fall/Winter 2011/12 Haute Couture show.  The smokey eye look may not be everyone's cup of tea but I think if it's toned down a little, it's perfect for a night out (minus the lace mask).  For an everyday look, I would just use Mirifique as a liner.

All the Illusion d'Ombres come with a brush, which can be used to apply the product as a shadow or as eyeliner.  Personally I find applying with fingers for all over shadow is fine, and makes blending much easier.

Sorry this photo looks out of focus due to the shimmer and glitter

When I tested it as a liner, it transferred straight away onto my eyelid.  So oily and/or hooded lid girls will have to use a primer for this to stay put and not crease.

I'm liking Mirifique so far.  I might have to get some other colours.

  1. Oooh I didn't realise that Chanel fall has been released in the UK *BRB running to my nearest counter* It does suck that they are released in the US so much earlier than us, but it does allow us to read up on the products within the collection so we have an idea of what we want when they do get here :D

  2. It's exclusive to Selfridges here in London for 2 weeks...I'm sure they have the same up near you :)
I could have saved £££ by waiting til it's released everywhere because I have Boots points but couldn't resist!
