Red Lipstick Series Round-up

To me, red lipstick = instant glamour.

It doesn't matter what you're wearing, whether it is a little black dress or a white shirt with jeans.  If you wear red lipstick with your outfit, it will step it up to the next level.

Red lipstick also requires confidence in the wearer.  If you don't feel comfortable in it, forget it, because it will show.

Lipstick of the day #8 - MAC Lipstick in Russian Red

I bought MAC lipstick in Russian Red without meaning to (as with a lot of things I have bought).  I went into the MAC Pro store off Carnaby Street to pick up something else and the SA serving me was wearing Russian Red.  I had to ask her what she was wearing straight away because it looked that good.  And then I bought it.

Lipstick of the day #7 - Chanel Rouge Coco in Rivoli

Chanel Rouge Coco Rivoli is not a colour I'd normally pick. It looks a bit drab and stuffy-old lady in the tube.  You know the type I'm talking about - immaculate clothes and hair with a tiny yappy dog.  But after seeing this beauty photo from the Chanel F/W 11 Haute Couture Show, I was sold.

Nip+Fab Frown Fix

In my opinion the name Frown Fix is quite misleading, because it implies it will get rid of frown lines.  Frown Fix is actually only a temporary filler which plumps up the skin.

This is one of those hyped up beauty products, having been featured on a BBC show and in a newspaper article.  People actually lined up at Boots to buy it on launch day.  There were waiting lists.  Somehow I was oblivious to all of that and did not realise all the fuss.

Nails of the day #3 - Leighton Denny Supermodel

Got this nail polish free with the July copy of Harpers Bazaar.  That in itself is a bargain but I bought it when HB sent out a discount vouche...so I ended up getting the magazine and nail polish for £2!

This colour is in the same colour family as Chanel Particuliere but not quite there.  On nails, Supermodel shows up a lot lighter.

On my ring finger is Chanel Particuliere, the rest is Leighton Denny Supermodel.  Excuse the messy polish.

I've been wearing this for 5 days now, and have just got a chip on my thumb nail.  This is pretty good for me as Chanel usually only lasts 2 or 3 days max on me!

Paul & Joe Eye Gloss Duo B

I have to admit I've always been interested in Paul & Joe cosmetics but have never bought anything from the line.  Perhaps it's because I think the packaging is too pretty - it seems like it's overcompensating for something.  Or maybe because their products seemed to lean towards pastel colours.

Makeup Forever HD Blush in #6

It is a shame that Makeup Forever is so hard to find in the UK.  Because I love this brand.  Not for the packaging, because it is very basic.  Not for their season collections (actually I don't think they have any).  It's because they do everyday products very well.  I love their concealers and I love the HD Blush.

NARS Cream Blush in Cactus Flower & Penny Lane

NARS is well-known for blush (of the powder variety) due to the popularity of Orgasm.  But I find their cream blush formula to be just as good.

I have two cream blushes by NARS, Cactus Flower and Penny Lane, and they couldn't be more different.  Cactus Flower is a look-at-me super bright coral pink with shimmer and Penny Lane is a very understated muted pink.

Becca Lip and Cheek Creme in Tuberose

Becca Lip and Creme Blush in Tuberose is cream blush that isn't too heavy nor oily.  However, it will not last the whole day on oily skin - I find that at the end of my work day, the colour has pretty much disappeared.  Saying that it should last longer on those with normal to dry skin.

It's very blendable and application is pretty much foolproof.  What I love about this blush is that it doesn't feel greasy - this is very important for me as I don't really need a shiny oil slick on my cheeks

A little catch up

I noticed a lot of traffic to my blog was through google searches for specific lipstick colours, so I've added some quick swatches.

Chanel Rouge Allure in Enthusiast
Nars Pure Matte Lipstick in Carthage
Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Monte-Carlo
Rouge G de Guerlain in Georgia

For next week, I'll be reviewing my cream/gel/liquid blushes collection.  Here's two I have reviewed already - Benefit Posietint and Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blush.
